Frequently Asked Questions
.
What operating system is XtremeLock compatible with?
This product has been tested with Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows 98 and Windows 7 RC. This product does not work with MS Vista.

What are the hardware requirements?
The computer must have an unused USB port.

Can I use a USB hub?
If your computer can see the thumbdrive inserted into the hub to install the software, then Yes you can use the hub.

Can I move the thumbdrive to another USB port on the same computer?
Yes. The software only looks for the matching thumbdrive to be inserted. The thumbdrive does not have to remain in the usb port used for the installation.

Can I move the thumbdrive to another USB port while the computer is up and running?
Yes. You will have 60 seconds to move the thumbdrive to another USB port before the software will shutdown the PC.

What options other than PC shutdown are available when the thumbdrive is removed?
You can elect during installation to either shutdown the computer or lock the mouse and keyboard input if the thumbdrive is removed.

What if my USB Thumbdrive is lost or damaged?
To be frank, what if you lose your car keys? The car doesn't start. The same with XtremeLock, if the key is not present, the computer does not start. To answer your question though, the product must be uninstalled by booting your computer in Safe Mode. You must use the uninstall passwords supplied during the install process.

Why do i need to register my product?
Registering your product provides XtremeLock the means of contacting all our customers if necessary with critical updates and announcement to our products. Also with registration, you will be able to have your uninstall password emailed to you if you misplace it during the install process.

The Registration process says I need to create a web based email account to use as my Web Based Email Address. Why is that?
If you are unable to boot your computer because of a damaged or lost USB thumbdrive, you will probably be unable to get to your ISP based email account. Therefore we recommend creating an email account from Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. These emails can be accessed from any computer anywhere without special software. Even your phone or PDA can get to these accounts. Lost Uninstall passwords are emailed to whatever you specify as your Web Based Email Address.

Can I use my own USB Thumbdrive?
No. The software and thumbdrive are key matched during setup before it is shipped.

If my USB Thumbdrive is lost or damaged will XtremeLock give me another?
There are costs involved in purchasing the thumbdrive, loading the software, taxes, shipping costs, etc. Therefore we cannot just send out another full product. You will have to uninstall the product and install a new copy with a new thumbdrive.

I am having install issues.
  See the Contact page

What keeps someone from booting my computer in safe mode and using it?
You should create an administrator password that will be required when trying to use safe mode.

How many PC's can I install one purchased copy of XtremeLock on?
One purchased copy of XtremeLock can be legally installed on mulitple computers. However each computer will only work when the thumbdrive hardware key is installed.
